So there are plenty of people using Pentax APSC cameras with articulated screens who haven't seen a new APSC camera for years.

Has Ricoh/Pentax taken them into account? Do they even care about them?

What are those users going to do?

Get a KP or a K-70?

So those who might be using a previous Pentax DSLR and would be pleased to have whatever improvements the K-new brings, but who would also appreciate the benefits of an articulated screen, would need to carry two cameras:- K-new, and KP or K-70. There must be many amateurs who would not wish to do that, and/or simply cannot afford that, perhaps even expecting to trade their existing model in order to fund the new one.

The only solution if one absolutely must have an articulated screen on an APS-C Pentax is to buy a camera that has it. I'm not saying, buy one and a K-new; people will naturally prioritize and go one way or the other.

If Pentax-Ricoh have not included an articulated screen in the K-new, they will have taken the wrong decision - they will disappoint many of their loyal users, and they could lose some existing and some new customers.

That's just one feature, and I suspect fewer customers would be lost than people are assuming.

The K-new is supposed to offer performance; if it does that well, IMHO most potential customers will forgive or even ignore its fixed screen.

The flagship FF has an articulated screen and the flagship APS-C should have one. In addition to providing the superb OVF, also giving users the means of enjoying capturing images which would be difficult or impossible using the OVF is very much compatible with the Pentax ethos.

Yet those cameras are designed with different usages in mind - the ideal landscape machine, high resolution, not very fast vs. the camera which should fix the performance issues and autofocus. The KP has also differences according to what type of camera it wants to be.

There's no single template.
