I replaced an 80-200 2.8 AFS with the 70-200 F4, it was lighter and suited my needs better (I have a 180 2.8 when I need the bokeh at the longish end).

I’ve used it with a TC 14EII for 280mm in a pinch (before I got a 300 F4 AFS VR).

I have no experience with the 70-300s. Buy whichever suits your needs best that’s within your budget. Use it and enjoy.
