IBIS creep

Manufacturers exist to sell you things. One of those things is IBIS. They will include IBIS as a feature whenever the market will pay extra for it.

Manufacturers don't care whether you like IBIS or not. They don't even care if more people want ibis than would be prepared to do without ibis. They can still charge more for including ibis, as long as the people who want it care more about its inclusion, than the people who don't want it care about its exclusion.

At the moment, the market is prepared to pay extra for IBIS, even where it leads to an increase in body size. We can tell that, because when manufacturers have offered IBIS for a while, either all bodies have it, or only the cheapest bodies don't have it. That's true across almost all manufacturers (Sony, Pentax, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus).

Fuji may sell a 'purist camera', but I suspect they couldn't maintain the sales needed to make it pay for itself. Leica can, because they're set up to sell small runs of product.

For that reason, I suspect Fuji will only exclude IBIS from their cheapest cameras in future.
