no manual focus on my Nikkor 80-200mm (not push/pull) - how to fix?

I've searched the net came across 2 fixes/issues:

  1. the plastic that holds the "t-shaped" metal in place has broken off (not applicable in my situation)
  2. Applying pressure on the metal "sprint" will allow "something" in the mechanism to hook into the focus ring and manual focus will begin working again (I folded a piece of paper (about 1/8-1/10 inch thick and just enough width to fit the cut out) and applied pressure into the metal spring and It doesn't latched into anything)

Any ideas? Thanks!

This is the pic of the supposedly part that causes manual focus to fail.
