Hi,

recently bought EOS R and upgraded firmware to latest 1.7.

I'm mostly shooting long exposure night photos and unfortunately saw banding on few of those. Decided to test banding issue and shot multiple 2min exposures with lens cap on. Few of those have significant banding few have almost none. Does anyone now fix or caution steps to take to avoid this? Is it related to sensor overheating? I've been searching online with no real results other than this 'was' fixed in firmware 1.2...

Pushed +5stops, contrasts -100 to emphasize the problem. The left image was kind of ok, when not adjusting contrast, the right one was messed up.

Call me radical, subversive and 'way out there' but a two minute exposure 'Pushed +5stops, contrasts -100 to emphasize the problem' is a bit like walking up to a drunk on a Saturday night and knocking a pint from their hand.

Everything was fine until you did that and now you're going to get punched in the face as a result.

First time I noticed problem was with image below. I lowered the contrast an pushed exposure and saw banding. You would ask: why I couldn't just expose longer? Because the longer I expose the larger the possibility of blurry image. I did take over 7 long exposure photos. In the rain, with umbrella, but still the one with 200sec exposure was blurrier than this photo with 100sec exposure. BUT it had to be pushed but was ruined with banding! Plus this has clouds that I like more etc.

There are so many variables when shooting long exposures in the nature, rain, wind, clouds moving, fog moving, water moving, light changing. Often every exposure is different so HDR stacking most of the times are unsuccessful. The blurred images can only be picked when viewed on PC. So now I have only sharp image with elements that I like BUT IT HAS BANDING... I have to be able to use that dynamic range to the fullest and this 2000$+ camera with this kind of critical hardware error is bad.
