New vs. old Olympus 400mm

With the announcement of the new Olympus 100-400mm lens, I was curious what the old school approach using classic 4/3rds lenses.

So according my calculations:

Micro 4/3rds Olympus 100-400mm:

  • Length: 206mm (8.11 inches)
  • Weight: 1120g (2.47 pounds)
  • Aperture: f/5-6.3

Micro 4/3rds Panasonic 100-400mm:

  • Length: 172mm (6.75 inches)
  • Weight: 985g (2.17 pounds)
  • Aperture: f/4-6.3

Classic 4/3rds Olympus 50-200mm (mark I), MMF-3 adapter, EC-20 teleconverter:

  • Length: 240mm (9.45 inches)
  • Weight: 1338g (2.95 pounds)
  • Aperture: f/5.6-7

I was curious.  If you didn't have all three, it would cost you $1,022.75 US + tax from ebay ($479.95 for the lens from a US shipper, $293 for the EC-20 from a US shipper, and $249.80 from a Japanese shipper).
