I find a lot of good info on youtube personally, but I agree with you on the above.  I've noticed over the past year or so more of the channels I subscribe to have been using their own image in the video thumbnail (usually making funny faces).  To me, this makes it seem like the video is going to be more about them (for entertainment as you say) and less about the actual content/subject.
