Bokeh already has classifications...

Bokeh describes the characteristics of out-of-focus blur circles, ie the blurred images of points.

Blur is already quantified, usually as a point-spread function. It has dimensions.

There are already useful classifications for Bokeh, for instance...

  • cats-eye (caused by aperture shading)
  • onion-ring (caused by diffraction in aspherical lenses)
  • geometric (caused by the shape of the aperture pupil)
  • even (in lenses well corrected for spherical aberration)
  • soft or smooth (in lenses with spherical aberration)
  • harsh or outlined (in lenses with over-corrected SA)
  • chromatic (in lenses with chromatic aberration - also called bokeh fringing)
  • astigmatic (non-circular, caused by coma or astigmatism)

Generally - 'good' refers to even or soft bokeh.

So, I don't think there is a need for anything further.

Good article on it here, from B&H
