I tried the Oly 7-14 but without protection on that front element took away my enjoyment so I traded it and purchased the 8-18 PL and was surprised to find it was slightly better IQ wise plus the filter ring.

I have to confess that I have never bothered fitting a protective filter to any lens for the last 15 years ( i figured for the price of 11 or more high quality filters needed to protect each lens I could afford to replace even my most expensive pro lens)

However that 7-14 oly lens does protrude a long way and sadly that encourages fogging over easily when the dew point gets close.

Yeh, I live near the coast and sometimes the mist spray from the sea sees me cleaning the filters whilst out so that front element would have been in need of cleaning at times.
