Something happened because your original looks cleaner when viewed at the same size.

If you have photoshop try upscaling using the "preserve details" mode and double the size exactly. Then try cropping and see if you get better results. I use that trick a lot with great success. Let me know if it helps.

I used to do that a lot when I first got my R and used APS-C lenses this helped a lot with the crop. I could print 16 x 20 inch prints and they looked razor sharp. It fills in the "jaggies".
