Nikon's 200-500mm produces great quality but it is huge and heavy. Handling wise, it is not great as you need to turn the zoom ring a great deal to zoom from one end to another.

The 150-600mm lenses are similarly heavy and bulky - and if you fly on airplanes, it can be quite difficult to manhandle them into the cabin due to the various hand luggage restrictions of airlines.

I have shot Nikon 80-400mm and 200-500mm on both FX and DX bodies and my current goto lens is the Sigma 100-400mm on the D7500. The big 200-500mm lens is more balanced on FX and a tad too big on DX - so balance isn't as good. The Sigma is almost a perfect match for the D7500 in every way. IQ is great and it is also very good on the pocket.

I shoot mainly aviation and F1 photos and sometimes casually shoot birds flying around airports. The Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | C can get them all with good IQ! Highly recommended if you don't have a big budget!

thanks! I think i might downsize to the 100-400 as after taking the 150-600 to the track, i basically never used it above 400 and when i did, the heat distortion was insane. gives an interesting effect to make almost a painting like portrait, but mostly unusable. I have pictures i will post later
