I earn my living shooting photos and videos for tourism marketing, so definitely in the 50/50 camp. I canceled my preorder to wait for more real-world stuff from users of production units. The R's ergonomics are near perfect for me and RF glass is amazing, I really want to make the R5/6 work for me, but right now I have to wait and see if its something I can rely on.
My daily carry kit is 2 bodies, 3 or 4 lenses, a drone, a gimbal, a small travel tripod, a video monopod and all accessories. Its totally carry-on friendly. I usually shoot a mix of handheld, from a video monopod and on the gimbal.
To those that will say "get a video camera" that argument is played and not the way a large part of the video world has worked for the last decade, don't even bother. The only cameras that match the IQ of something like the R5 or a7s3 are cameras like the FX9 which are significantly larger and require much larger support gear.
Thank you for saying this! I keep hearing this argument about getting c300s and stuff and it seems like this comes from people who don’t use or understand the video world. I’ve seen a lot of people doing professional video work and I’ve never actually seen anyone using a c300 or a red or anything like it.
I have a bunch of lenses that I've invested in, and I want the same aesthetic in both stills and video. I also need a small footprint to stay nimble and just be able to work. In busy tourist areas, I just look like a gearhead tourist.
Cheers
Chris
P.S. if you ordered later than 5 minutes after preorders opened at B&H and got a camera - you're welcome haha!
