R5 e-shutter is fast at tracking
11

Went out hoping to find a hummingbird to test out rolling shutter with wings but didn't find one. However, this little bird moves incredibly fast.  I would not have been able to get this sequence with my 1DX3.  This is a handheld sequence with EF600/4LIII (which is fairly heavy).

Not seeing rolling shutter effects here but this is just one attempt.

Also, this is e-shutter which means only 12 bit A/D but at ISO 640 the impact would probably still be relatively minor.

I did not buy the R5 as an action camera to replace my 1DX3 but as an all arounder it is doing a surprisingly good job given that it is dealing with high pixel count!  I would say black-out or lag is monstrously improved vs the R.  I don't think it is worse (and it might be better) than the impact of a mirror slapping up and down on my 1DX3.
