Hello,
I'm xh1 owner and at the moment after a lot of months of usage I want to change the system. Bought it with the booster kit under 900€ new, tried a lot of lenses but still not impressed by some things I did not liked about the camera and due Fuji system itself, also the xh1 is the biggest X camera but the grip is still very thin for me and the ibis sometimes seems to create some microshake instead of help me. (there is a discussion here about it also related to xt4). BTW at the moment it was the best deal and the more complete camera for the price.
I'm an amateur and I use my main camera for YouTube vlog static video (1080p and a Lumix g80 at the moment, the Lumix app is way way better than Fuji). Speaking of stills I do different kind of photography, sometimes wildlife in the past but the burst speed is not may main point, I prefer a much reliable Autofocus even with slower burst.
I'm going to sell my xh1 kit with vertical booster and trying to find an alternative without spending too much money: I've also thought about xt3, to get advanced AF and maybe new features via firmware in the future but except the great 100-400mm I did not find the Fuji system reliable for me, at least because I use lightroom and do now want to migrate to C1 where result are visibly better with RAF files, I do not use jpgs. Lenses also are expensive and some older ones lacks of newer af system or even WR considering the price, not reliable 3rd party alternatives at the moment.
Not considering xt3 i was looking also at the "limited" Eos Rp with not so much price difference while selling my xh1 kit and I can find nice cheap EF lenses to adapt in the budget. The downside of RP is the single slot, the 2mp evf, slow burst, plastic body with no WR.. 1/4000 shutter and the absence of a real ES silent shooting in every mode. A lot of downside in fact! That's why I'm tryin to get some feedback here.
I'd use it for some indoor steady vlog videos only in FHD, flippy screen is useful but I'm looking more to the remote app for that, where the Canon one seems a lot better than the useless Fuji App. Speaking of photography I do different kind of style but I'm an amateur, never needed crazy bursy speed and I do not do paied jobs. So I can live with single slot most of the time, even if it is a stupid limitation on modern cameras.
I'm worried about the RP battery life even considering the Patona Premium a very cheap and reliable alternative. On my xh1 the battery life with IBIS and some lenses was still a real pain BTW, I know how to deal with it sadly.
I was considering also the R as a real upgrade, but even if it goes down to 1500€ in the next months I'm still out if budget because I can't buy any lens then while I can buy something in Kit with a lower priced RP. In the future I may upgrade to the upper model, but for at least one year I think to not be able to invest more in photo gear. I've also no Fuji lenses at the moment, just adapted ones, not worried about the brand change.
I also know that Fuji files can be recovered a lot better than Canon Rp files, so much better in these regards, but if exposed properly Canon files gives me better results and colors that I like (I use 5d mk1 and still love it). Also considering the equivalent factor a FullFrame sensor gives me more 3d look and transitions. It performs better till iso 6400 than Fuji the Canon 26mp sensor? I know the solved on the R the banding problem when recovering exposure, don't know about the Rp.
What do you think? What's your experience?
I'm selling XH1 because remote app it's a pain and very limited for my video usage, the Autofocus is fast but not reliable as Canon DP and because it's the bigger X camera but didn't like the ergonomics at all, and there is no Fuji bigger alternatives. (I have the battery grip, but the grip itself on the body it's too thin, it stresses my hand) .
I thought about Sony also but A7 iii still expensive for me and the body is not comfortable. I'm struggling in my budget and my decision. I'm not using my Fuji X-H1 very often now, don't want to buy some XF lenses I've already tested so I'm trying to make a change. Please let me know your experience🙂
(I know most of you will tell me to keep my X-H1, but considering also I'm using Lightroom and not invested in lenses I'm more open to other alternatives)
