if you are on Android 9 or later, Lockdown is the feature that is more fit for the particular situation you describe.

Forgive my ignorance (just went from Android 7 to Android 10 on a new phone).

What's a lockdown feature? Never heard of it or 2FA, though I've just now briefly read about the later at Wikipedia. Over my head. Sounds similar, but different, than two-step authentication.

Thank you.

I think lockdown is simply something you activate usually from the lock screen. It disables every method of unlocking the phone (like fingerprint) besides the pass/pin/pattern. This means an attacker could not simply forcibly make you look at or touch your phone to unlock it, they'd have to make you reveal the correct code.
