Benefits of 5G?

The above answer ("it depends ....") is right. Current deployments of 5G vary radically on performance depending on a) whether it is locally available at all, and then b) what spectrum it's been deployed on. This is a basic guide, but there are others with more detail:
https://venturebeat.com/2019/12/10/the-definitive-guide-to-5g-low-mid-and-high-band-speeds/
On the low band (ex-TV) long range spectrum that pierces walls, performance is only marginally better than 4G. But at ultra-high band spectrum that requires a node every 200 meters (e.g. potentilaly in sports arenas, conventional and resort or high-density urban facilities, important corporate or government workplaces) it can be phenomenally fast, like a wired ethernet connection.
Now that is interesting. Thank you for this and for the link!
So it depends ... on where you plan to go and what you plan to routinely do or want to do, and how well your particular carrier's network matches that. During the pandemic, a lot may depend on towers serving your home.
My personal view is that the 5G deployments planned for the life-cycle of current devices is quite over-hyped, and advertising is muddied on this basic spectrum / performance dependence, so I wouldn't pay big dollars for a device or service contract myself, but ... it depends.
