Here is an example of a simple focus stacking image of a yellow rose. I used the SD1 Merrill and the 105 mm OS macro lens. I used 3 hand held exposures, one at the front, one in the middle and one on the back part of the flower. I stacked the images in Photoshop. I am pretty pleased with the result. I plan to do more of these using a tripod.

Image taken at Hudson Gardens in natural light.

Enjoy!

Very nice result for handheld.

But you know that focus-stackers are pixel-peepers, and you have a merge problem at 2 o’clock and an OOF region at 3 o’clock..

but it’s still very nice. Try not to get addicted to this- it will eat up your spare time.

Thanks for the comments David.  I plan to do more of these using 4 or 5 image stacks and a tripod.  The 105 mm lens is really sharp and should work for these type of stacked images.  I will post the results as soon as I have a opportunity to do more shooting.
