Canon Rumors reports that the successor to M5 is coming in late 2020 or early 2021.

It says it will be something like APSC EOS R6. Although it is not sure that it has RF or EFM mount, it looks kind of a replacement for 7D mk2.

1. Which mount do you think the new body will take?

In my opinion, if it is truly a replacement for 7D line, it must have RF mount rather than EFM. However, I would rather have M5mk2 with R6/R6's fast AF and shutter.

If it is a mirrorless 7D, then it would have to be in RF mount. There are already several RF lenses that would be enticing to a 7D user. Not so with the EF-M lineup. Canon is not going to build a $2000 high end crop body solely for use with adapted EF glass.

I will happily adapt my f/1.8 zooms to either mount.

2. How many pixels do you think it is supposed to have: 20MP or 32MP?

R6 has 20MP, while M6mk2 has 32MP. If it has 20MP only like R6, I believe that it cannot be called as a successor to M5.

Canon has two crop sensors currently in production; 24MP and 32MP. Given the performance expectations of a mirrorless 7D, the body would most certainly use the 32MP sensor, unless Canon creates a new sensor specifically for this camera.

Canon won't develop an extra sensor for this camera. Too costly, and the 32Mp sensor is good enough.
