Digging up a bit of an old thread. One week in since getting the G9 and I'm still amazed with it and the features it has.

Picked up a 35-100 f2.8 and a 100-300 this past weekend, and love the versatility the 35-100 offers. The animal AF has been superb, and the AFC has caught more shots then it's lost. To me at least, it seems a lot faster than my D7200.

Image quality has been pretty good. Slight loss when pixel peeping, but the overall images look not much different than what I've had out my D7200 thus far as well.

Overall, loving the G9 and its portability with the 35-100. As much as I love my D7200 and Tamron 70-200 G2, the G9 combo makes it so easy to just pick it up and go, without thinking about the size or weight on long journeys!

Great shots, I've not been so lucky. What sort of shutter speed do you find in necessary. I have found the Face/Body detect with C AF doesn't keep up with my grandson. Which A F set do you use? I used set1, so I'm thinking of trying some of the others. I got a few decent shots but too many focused on the background.

Thanks! I've found the shutter speed varies depending on the light. I think these were around 1/60 if not a bit faster. I have shot down to 1/4" and slower for stills, and the IBIS has worked wonders. ISO wise I've left it in auto, and it varies between 200-800 depending on the light.

AF wise, I've used primarily AF-C with the animal detect, or 225 point area. The animal tracking has so far been pretty spot on. I'd say the hit rate is probably 75%. Even with the 225 mode, its been pretty good, although I've adjusted the area size to be a bit smaller and try to keep my subject in that area to produce better results.
