I have a funny situation: a fast 256GB card stuck in slot 1. It works, but I'm leaving it. Slot 2 is fine. But I'd prefer to leave them both in. What's the fastest way to use a cable interface -- the "multi" port or USB-C port? Because if it's the latter, I'll order a cable to use. Seems like a safe way to preserve this camera for years. Thx!

A7R III has USB-C Gen 1 which is rated at 5gbit/s.
That is about 625mb/s.

Currently there are no sd cards that are that fast, so I'm pretty sure that you will max out the transfer through USB-C.

But, your computers USB also needs to be a 3.1 Gen 1 or 2 to be able to use this speed, look for blue or red USB contacts on your computer, blue is Gen 1 (5gbit/s), red is Gen 2 (10gbit/s).

I have no idea how fast the multi-port is, but that USB-C should cover your cards speed, and then some.

Ok, thanks! It's a newer MBP 15" so I should be fine on the USB-C via the dongle 🤦‍♂️
