There is a 50mm 1.8 STM coming to R. This focal length is probably the most popular focal length for all prime lenses.

Canon is making affordable lenses and will want affordable bodies to mate with them. The RP is the cheapest FF. I don't think it will ever go cheaper then its current price point as Canon still want to segment their customers.

Canon is not going to ignore the $400-$800 price range customers that would want to purchase the 50mm R 1.8.

Canon can either make a R CROP body to fit in that price slot or they can make a EFM 50mm. My money is on the body as that is the better long term strategy.

With COVID putting even more stress on the camera industry. It may accelerate Canon's decision to stop investing in M mount especially if sales are tanking. The m50ii would of started planning last year so there is still a good chance it would still be released.

The M5 is not coming to M mount and I don't see the M6iii coming as well. COVID really changed a lot of strategies.

To me It's clear the direction of R with these budget lenses. It will cater to all customers and price points. The budget bodies will naturally follow.

I don't agree. APS-C cameras are still outselling FF cameras by a wide margin (9 to 1).

It's not only the camera price, the lenses are a lot cheaper as well: the EF-M 22 is like a third the price of the RF 35 and this is the cheapest RF lens by a lot.

Also, the size. FF is getting smaller, but not enough to convince a lot of people.

So you telling me aspc is selling 10:1 ratio and that canon is putting all this development into R lenses so they can sell it to 10% of the base?

The 24-105 stm is the cheapest R lens.

Here is another hint. Why is the ef to efm adapter double the price of the canon basic ef to rf adapter?

Canon is clearly pushing R, the longer they put this M charade on, the more users are going to be frustrated by having to choose which mount to go with.

APS-C cameras outsell FF ones by a wide margin. There are data out there where you can find it.

That data is all backward looking and does not reflect the recent reality of modern, sub $1000, full frame cameras. You also have smartphones swallowing up the bottom end of the crop market more and more every year.

is it really hard to comprehend the fact that sub $1000 ff didn’t happen in europe?

Oh, but it did. The EOS RP with a mount adapter is currently € 1,165.00 in Europe, after a € 100 Canon discount. However, that price already includes VAT which ranges from 16% to 25%, depending on the country. Subtract VAT and your are under € 1,000, plus you are getting the free mount adapter. In the USA, there is no free mount adapter and all prices are pre-tax.

localprice is around $1600 and no rebates

I am sorry, but your local prices in Iceland are not remotely comparable to the rest of the world. Earlier you posted that the RP was selling for ISK 239,899. At today's conversion rate, that is just over € 1,500.00. You are paying a premium of almost 30% over mainland Europe.

bingo, you see my problem is that RP, R6 and R5 are priced out of sync with everything else.

However, the margin every FF camera and lens leaves to the manufacturer is bigger and APS-C and FF lenses sell in very similar numbers. So it's obvious that manufacturers want you to "upgrade" to FF.

In the beginning of the June RP price in Poland was equivalent of 940$ on sale. I have brought it for 1000 $ since my m50 broke down and sale have ended. Now after the reimagine event prices went up to 1140$ equivalent. The same with lenses after the event canon increased the price. Probably to recuperate cashbacks as with dual cashback (one applied when you buy a body and second normal holiday promotion) I have managed to get rf24-105 for 500 $ equivalent which is cheaper then EF version. Seems they didn't calculate that.
