Canon enters Equivalence fight with slow new super telephotos?
7

Canon announces new lenses for R mount:

Canon 600mm f11 IS STM 900g

Canon 800mm f11 IS STM 1260g

Olympus has 300mm f4 (600mm f8 equivalent) 1270g

Olympus has 300mm f4 + 1.4x MC14 (840mm f11 equivalent) 1375g

Canon 100-500mm f4.7-7.1 L IS USM 1365g

Olympus had a 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 (100-400 f5.6-7.1 equivalent) 995g

The argument for m4/3 and bridge cameras used to be that you could get long lenses and compact size even if the image quality was not as good as other formats.

How many 600mm can you dangle like this?:

Could Canon's move be an aggressive one to begin to oust m4/3?

Where else would inspiration for such unconventional apertures come from?
