Canon R5 and R6 are announced yesterday.

I do not think that Canon would release something like 7D, which has FF-like body but APSC sensor. However, I believe that Canon would continue M5 or M6 lineup for their APSC market. We had M5 first and M6 later. Now We have M6mk2, but not M5mk2 yet. Some users like me are still waiting for M5mk2. I believe even some M6mk2 users hope that M6mk2 would be upgraded at some points.

If you want something from a successor to M5/M6, what do you want to see?

DPREVIEW were told directly BY CANON that "the M6II is the replacement for both the M5 and M6". They published this key line when reviewing the M6 II.

As for those thinking about moving to the R system, it's only as good as its lenses. That means spending a LOT of money to use the right lenses. It's MUCH larger and MUCH heavier and MUCH more expensive. Pick your poison.

Yes, the RF mount has some massive lenses with superlative optical quality. And yes, the M system has some truly tiny lenses. What is missing in your comparison is the middle ground and it is a sector that Canon is targeting with the RF mount. Take a look at some of the recent RF lenses and what an equivalent EF-M version would beed to be....

RF 35mm f/1.8 = EF-M 22mm f/1.1

RF 85mm f/2.0 = EF-M 53mm f/1.2

RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 = EF-M 15-65mm f/2.5-4.5

RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 = EF-M 15-150mm f/2.5-4

RF 600mm f/11 = EF-M 375mm f/7.1

RF 800mm f/11 = EF-M 500mm f/7.1

All we need is a RF 16-35 F5.6-8 and  a F2.8 35mm pancake and i would be good to go

Compared to the RF "L" lenses, none of the lenses above would be considered massive nor expensive, but they all have an optical advantage over the existing EF-M lineup. Unless Canon breaks their artificial 61mm diameter constraint on EF-M lenses, the entire middle ground will go to the RF mount.

My 5D IS a MK1 classic

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer

If you wait for a camera that will  tick all your boxes ....by then you will have more boxes to tick..... so the wait continues .....David Appleton
