Canon should just stop developing the M system altogether and just focus on the R.

They can make M5ii in the R mount. Just port the current lenses over.

R mount can be made compact. Just look at the Z mount kit lens.

Canon certainly seems to have a laser focus on the R at this moment.  But I hope they don't abandon the m.

There's a lot of us who don't have that kind of money to spend on a new system.   The current R offerings are pretty big, too.

Could Canon come out with more affordable, smaller R cameras and lenses?  Sure.  Will they?  Who knows?  And if they did, I think those cameras and lenses would have compromises to protect Canon's profit margins and not cannibalize their high end offerings.  I for one wouldn't dump my current cameras to pay more for something that was bigger and not necessarily much better.  This is of course speculation on what a compact R system would be like if Canon chose to go that route.  Maybe it would be amazing and small and not expensive

The charm of the m system to me has been its size and affordability.  I have the original m and m100 and they are just fun to carry and shoot.  I've bought all my m stuff on sale or used and didn't have to worry about going broke to buy them. Totally my own needs and not to knock people who are excited about the R.  The specs look awesome.  But when it comes time to replace my FF system, I'm not going R.
