I've made good use of the GPS feature included in my 7D MkII, but can't find any mention of it in any of the R series.

Have I missed it?

Or is GPS (& shooting direction from magnetic compass) no longer offered?

The RP does not have a GPS. But synchronization with a smartphone GPS is very well implemented. Once configured, you only have to start the app on your smartphone and after a few seconds, connection has been made. I read that GPS uses a lot of battery power from the camera, so with the limited battery life of mirrorless cameras, I think using the smartphone GPS is a better solution.

You get the power use of maintaining a connection with your phone in return..... for both the camera AND your phone.....  not to mention the battery of your phone has to provide the power for GPS......

To my eye an added connection is always consuming more power overall.

It does not provide shooting direction.

And it doesn't provide compatibility with that GPS-sensor thing on the hot shoe. That's too bad.
