once loosened and ball is moving more freely, you can remove the camera from the head but do not store it in the locked position. Do not use any lubrication.

I am pretty sure Arca-Swiss discontinued the B1 and replaced it with the Z1 about 15-16 years

thanks for the help and surely will give it a try.. It is really only one of the axis that is quite stiff as others are all good. I never had it put away with set screws tighten down but who knows.. They sure are a fantastic piece of equipment even with this issue.. Thanks again..
