Re: What is Natural Live View? Explained...(under 4 minute video)

I have read your article and I find it provides very useful information on using ETTR, which I do on a regular basis. Thank's for sharing. I wonder if using the Adobe color space in addition to NLV would help.

The problem with video is that the video recording as well as the live display on the LCD becomes dark and underexposed when I press the record button (the release). This is a strange behavior that is caused by setting the display to NLV; the video behavior gets back to normal after I set NLV to off (X-T3). I didn't see anyone else posting on that; maybe people using NLV don't record video.

I just double checked. As soon as I start recording with NLV on it's like I applied -1 EV with the EC dial. The firmware is up-to-date. With NLV off there is no darkening.

OK. The problem was that the camera was not on Auto-ISO in video mode, With the video mode using Auto-ISO there is not that darkening of the display when I start recording whether NLV is on or off.

It turns out that in video mode with the ISO fixed and set too low for the scene, the EVF reflects the underexposure when NLV is OFF.  However, with NLV=ON, the EVF is brighter and it does NOT reflect the underexposure until recording starts and the the EVF suddenly gets darker.  Additionally the histogram shown in video mode with NLV ON will look wrong under the above conditions.
