Here's the OP's original thread on this subject, with a train example. I don't think anyone who responded felt the problem was field curvature.

Looking at that thread it looks like a DOF issue.

Field curvature warps the dof to curve forwards correct? That's what I'm saying, it not that the lens isn't sharp when in focus there, it's just oof due to curvature.

My brick wall test (or fence in my case) shows that if I focus on the corner it can be sharp even though it's not when I'm focused on the center. The train example the hill in the top center of the frame is significantly sharper than it is in the upper corners despite the distance being almost identical.
