I don't have time to read the whole article in detail due to other things going on in my life right now.

Most things use the inner circle for '+' current, and the outer jacket for '-'.  I'm pretty sure all of the dummy batteries I've seen use the center as positive.

It is nice to have the option to switch, but of course it means you have to be really careful to get the polarity you want.  On the cables that are switchable, I try to always use a voltage meter to make sure I have the right combination.

While it might be nice to buy the 30w versions, you don't need it.  Generally the most the camera might draw is about 10w.
