With my style of taking pictures, I don't use a tripod. It's too limiting and I'm moving around too much. In sunny weather, you should have relatively high shutter speeds. Just keep still and press down with the finger only without jerking the hand. That should be sufficient. Filters could be useful, but I would check the reviews on them first. You may want to purchase a Canon 55-250mm lens instead using the 75-300mm lens. It's less than $150 (USD) used. For landscape photos in bright conditions I don't think you'll need a 50mm lens. Make sure that you sensor is free of dust. You don't have in camera sensor dust protection with that model.

When I lived in the Denver Colorado area, I never made it to Devil's Tower. But we made a trip to the Black Hills. That was a fun trip, which included the Badlands and Wall Drug.
