RP owner. I intend to sell my RP and buy someone' gently used R.

danferrin, can you elaborate more on why an R would appeal to you more than the RP? I'd have assumed that most RP users would be pleased with the features and abilities of their camera.

I'm not an RP user but an R user and I can think of lots of reasons.

  • better sensor with more dynamic range and better low light capability
  • better battery life
  • higher FPS
  • higher maximum shutter speed
  • better low light AF
  • better LCD
  • AF in 4k video

Because of a few of these, I didn't even really consider the RP, although I'm sure it's a good camera.

- full mechanical shutter so your bokeh doesn't get messed up at bright apertures and fast shutter speeds

- better viewfinder

- manual focus assist

- slightly more Mp

However.......

The RP has better skintones, is more compact, and more affordable.  Together with the RF35 f/1.8, RF50 f/1.8 and RF85f/2.0, probably some ND filters and - lots of choice - a nice standard zoom it's a hell of a deal.  With that RP you can that glass right now for a low price, while you will update that RP 3 or 4 years later with a way better body still benefiting from that same glass.

This is probably the reason Canon didn't bother to bring out a flagship M model with build in viewfinder.

EF glass = bang for my buck
