I really don't recommend deleting windows.old.  That will just confuse Windows and I wonder if that might prevent a proper cleanup.

Either use disk cleanup to get Windows to delete it or if you don't need the disk space now, wait the 10 days until Windows does it automatically.

Don't fight Windows if you don't have to.
