I don't care about more megapixels as much as I care about less noise at higher ISO... For me the sensor of my M5 produces too much noise at ISO 1600 and up.

This a big reason for me to be looking around at other systems then the Canon M system, no matter how much I like the rest of the camera (size, weight, handling, many control dials).

I have bought a Pentax K1-mk2 for landscape photography. It is another world concerning IQ and DR compared to my beloved M6-mk1.

I started reading a review and it looks interesting, but it's a DSLR not mirrorless, and apart from the camera itself being very expensive I'd also have to invest in lenses starting from scratch again!

At least with another mirrorless system I can still use my EF lenses.

Sounds like you'll be migrating to an R mount camera then. Personally, I'm waiting for the R5/6 announcement and hoping Canon has a sale on the original R. 30mp on FF sensor is more than enough for me.

+3 These two systems (M and R) are for shooters with entirely different priorities. Make the right choice even if it hurts.

Sometimes i think Canon - when starting from scratch - could have gone with just one system serving all priorities.

True.  But I don't think Canon was anywhere close to being ready to implement the RF mount (and associated lenses) when they launched the M System.  And even if the RF hardware had been ready eight years ago, the corporate will certainly wasn't!
