Iliah, I don't understand "etalon of uniformity". Did your spell checker subsitute an unexpected word??

Is it a nonexistent word in English-based languages?

But it exists in science and technology language, here is an example:

I think etalon is not a commonly used word in North America - I hadn't come across it since I started my engineering education in 1974.

I am quite convinced that etalon is a word used in the English language - I found it in three different English dictionaries.

All of these define etalon as as another name for a Fabry–Pérot interferometer (I've known about those for quite some time). No definition for its use an adjective.

Wikipedia, however, sheds light; the origin of etalon is from the French étalon, meaning "measuring gauge" or "standard"

Now I understand you usage, it is aligned with the definition in the French language.
