I have a D300 that's basically a spare body so I'm considering pulling the battery and storing it. I have entered data for all my manual lenses. Is this information retained once the reserve power that keeps the clock going runs out?

Is there any reason a DX camera shouldn't be stored without a battery for a long time?

There is a internal battery that stores the settings when the battery is removed, depending on the camera this can last for many years. You can also save your settings to a memory card in the D300, page 325 of the manual, Spanner icon in menu "Save/Load settings"
