Thanks all for all the replies. I took the plunge and ordered a G9 last night. Looking at various other options, the Z6, D500, D780, and even a Canon RP and Sony A7 III, I kept coming back to the G9. I think it will end up being a great addition to my Nikon kit, and help me love M43 even more.

it may not be the most sexy body, but it is a lovable, tactile delight. UI could not possibly be better. The EVF puts it over-the-top, and even in IBIS and CAF, it virtually matches the EM1ii. Superb menu & touch screen. Customizable to the max.
Pure LOVE; intangibles elevate it above the APSC crowd. The Fuji XT4 maybe more beautiful, but all those analog dials are actually not the best for ergo and quickness
Completely Disagree.
Fuji cameras are much quicker to function. Even off, you know where most of your settings are. Apeture is on the lens, which I'm usually holding and quick to adjust. That you can also see when the camera is off or sleeping.
For me the big downside of Fuji's dedicated dials is that they don't allow the use of saved custom modes.
I love being able to switch from e.g. shooting active wildlife with fast shutter speed and wide aperture, to macro with the shutter set to flash sync and the aperture stopped down, simply by turning one dial. I keep a custom setting for general photography too, so I can switch to that for a quick snap, then flip back to my previous mode and immediately go back to what I was doing.
I actually quite like Fuji cameras in a lot of ways, and sometimes still use my old X-T10 for street and landscape shooting, but for my personal preferences and needs I find their control system pretty slow to use.
