Shouldn't a 70 degree reflector have a wider spread than 50 ?

I wonder if op's difference in the background wall illumination is due to the magnum being more efficient and requiring less power from the strobe. Less strobe power would lead to quicker light distance falloff and since the mannequin head is off the wall, the light from the magnum doesn't have the power to illuminate the wall.

Ah, gotcha. Good question. To answer that I can compare the reflectors by photographing a wall instead of a subject in front of one, I guess.
