Nothing wrong with that, still a nice camera.

It's like anything else, buy what you need and what you like but always more or less immediately equip it with all the useful lenses, flash etc that you need. Then you can go for years and have no cares if things change or the company goes away.

I still have a big bunch of Casio compacts in the house, they all still work as new even though Casio closed shop two years ago.

Some people call cameras an "investment" but no, they are simply consumer goods and mentally it is best to write off the value when you buy them.
