Dropping XTrans will not increase performance. But I think it is a 20% possibility.

I vaguely remember an article stating that the cameras have to use increased processing  power to process the X-Trans CFA into the final stills/video? I could be wrong. If it is true, what else could that processing headroom be used for? Fast fps? Better video? Better AF? All would help sell the cameras more than X-Trans.

Given how it's not much of a selling point and in some cases deters customers, combined with the extra development and production costs it's an "easy win" in the cost saving department.
