Just exactly how close are people getting to these small birds?

Sit reasonably still and nature will come to you.

A blind is good but gets pretty hot in FL.  I find that if I just sit and wait I become part of the environment to the birds and they will eventually get used to you.  If you sit absolutely still and them move suddenly to take a picture they will flee.

I've found that sometimes 'grazing' will get the shot.  By that I mean moving slowly, never directly to the bird, not staring, and taking random pictures around you.  Their curiosity and fear will dull after a while.
