IMHO, what Panasonic needs to do:
1: Design a new sensor and get Sony to make it, while also asking the rest of the M43 folks, especially the Video side, like Z Cam and Black Magic to use the same new Sensor.
You suggested panny buy them? Otherwise, how and why will they listen?
2: The new sensor should ditch 4:3 and go 16:9, make a 18.5x10.4mm 6144x3456 sensor. And let it be Stacked BSI with DIT. All these will Improve the IQ, and readout speed.
It will further crop on the focal length of current native lenses. Under this market would you expect any one would do major re hauling of its line up of existing products for an unknown market?
BTW, it has been discussed a lot that BSI might be good to smaller size sensors, the improvement on the larger size sensor like M43 could be small.
The forthcoming organic sensor and global shutter could be the real solution, if it will happen.
3: Move on full charge with Video, which is why the new sensor should be 16:9.
It is not for me, might also not for most M43 users, not even camera shooters...
If panny will really move this direction, why not concentrate on its already good videocam?
4: Start making smaller cameras again,
Agreed, a major reason for me to use M43.
and remember to weather sealed them.
Last on my list. Unlike other brand, the WR of my G85 is merely a design matter on the case but not using rubber ring... Not expect too much on them.
Having said so, my non WR cameras and lenses were used under all sort of weather conditions, none develops problem because of non WR shooting in rain/snow/dust. My oldest G1 is 11 years old and it had once even swam in a river🤔. Still doing fine mostly.
Make 2 weather sealed IBIS body with Flippy Screen, have a SLR version with EVF that weights below 450 and one RF version without EVF weights below 400g.
There are GF9/10 already. I doubt their size will permit using the recent 5-axis IBlS floating sensor system in. And indeed GX85/9, both are equipped with evf, not much heavier from your wishes are there. Of course, WR for a peace of mind will always welcome.
Slike Olym's E-M5 Mk3, just with the newer video focus sensor, as well as a SLR body for people whom wants EVF, and a RF version for those whom just use the screen.
Agreed, to put in OSPDAF is a market tendency nowadays. Panny should start to consider it despite of over concentration on DFD. BTW, on 1080, video AF of panny is already very usable, not suck as many commented. PDAF or not means small.
5: Kill any M43 lines that weights beyond 550g. There are Weather Sealed APS-C cameras with IBIS that weights less. Any one whom wants a bigger and more professional Lumix should just go to their L-Mount FF offerings.
To have choices for everyone is not a bad idea as long as smaller size bodies and lenses would be kept on alive.
6: Make some F3.2 Pancake Prime. Especially Ultra Wide ones. A pair of 6mm and 9mm F3.2 OIS Rectilinear would be nice. For Vlogging.
Personally 7~14 f/4 or 8~18 could be more happy to me. Prime = more lenses swapping. I could imagine not the best option around. Do you thinking on fixed lens concept of phone camera?
7: Make some Compact UWA Vlogging Lens to go with camers like G100. Like say a 8-16mm F3.5-5.6 OIS.
Im sure that few people care about any of that stuff, other than you.
