Dipping my toes into the world of wide angle, macro product photography (Laowa 15mm f/4 macro)

Hi guys,

I've got a job coming up that requires a somewhat unusual (for me, anyway) set up that will require some very close up macro work of some small products. The brief is for the shot to have that wide-angle distorted feeling to it.

Most of my still life work is typically shot on either my 85mm or 105mm (macro). I do have a 24mm but there was no way I could get close enough on such small objects.

After a bit of googling I found out about the Laowa 15mm f/4 macro. Took a punt on it, and I have to say I'm very happy with the results. In the second photo you can see how close the camera needed to be in this set up! The image was focus stacked with Helicon, and then retouched to clean up background.

Anyway, just wanted to share my recent discovery!
