Actually, making a 1" sensored rugged camera would fill a much needed demand for something better than what is currently available.

SONY already have, and it's quite expensive!

cathal, I've owned the RX10i, (&RX1i), TZ100, and I currently have the RX100iii, and am on my 2nd FZ1000i

The particular SONY I was referring to was the RX0 and RX0 ii. These are 1" action cam style devices, but very much geared towards high end, professional usage.

I have used a SONY RX10ii, which I used in business. I chose that over the FZ1000 as the constant 2.8 was more desirable than the longer focal length of the FZ100. I thought it was a very good camera, and I had images taken with that camera printed to display size for a trade show in Vegas.

The sensor size argument is such a non-starter for me.
