Your lens foot is held in place by that very same plate with the very same four tiny screws, so what's your point?

When the lens foot is on a tripod gravity pushes against the plate, there is no force on the four tiny screws. When i attach a camera belt to the plate, with a 1/4" screw, and carry it, gravity tries to pull the plate out of the lens, the four tiny screws have to hold the entire weight of camera, adapter, and lens.

The strength of a machine screw depends far, far, more on length and thread pitch than diameter.
