Re: How many megapixels do you want in an M?

32 seems good to me, more MP = more cropping ability and with primes and short kit zooms, this is a big bonus

the RX100 series / G3-5-7-9X series pack 20Mp onto a tiny 1" sensor and maintain decent DR and aren`t horrible at high ISOs. this tech needs to filter down into APS-C and M43 sensors , when it does Dynamic range and noise will be better even at 32Mp .

What needs to improve more in the Dual pixel sensors are Noise floor (lower noise at ISO100 , lose the peppered skies) and improve shadow pulling) and Dynamic range , the resolution and colour depth are excellent and the high ISO noise of the 24Mp devices at least isn`t that far behind the leading APS-C sensors .

I`ve always wondered with Dual pixel if there was a way to use all the "pixels" as a 42/64Mp imager even if it was just in Monochrome ? , there must be output for each "half" of the pixel for the system to be able to PDAF from it . I`ve no idea about the architecture of the sensor of course .

Also why are the AF systems on some of the cameras restricted to fewer AF points like the M100 and others only allowed more with certain lenses when every Pixel pair is potentially an AF point  ?
