Re: EF Lenses on R Mount (f/1.2 portrait primes)
For my Canon EOS R I chose a different approach. While I would love to own the new RF f/1.2L, like I did on EF mount. When I got it at the end of last year when it was on sale during the holidays I bought the RF 24-105/4L IS and 35/1.8 IS lenses. Both focal lengths that I thought were a good fit for how I planned to use the camera. I had shot Canon for 25 years before giving it up to go completely mirrorless in early 2019. I had been shooting mirrorless along side my DSLR since 2012 (not counting some small point and shoots).
After those two RF lenses I still wanted to add some other lenses so I added used EF 16-35/4L which I used on my 5DIII and IV. Such a great price to cover that range and for me f/4 was fast enough. Also added the EF 70-300/4-5.6L as well and thought I was all set.
Then found a great deal on the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS at 37% the cost of the RF version. I think I am going to be very happy with it. Just decided I didn't want to spend $10,000 on 4-5 lenses for the system and then $4000 body even though I have spent plenty of money in the past. And certainly wasn't going to spend $10,000 before even seeing the new R5 and getting to understand what it will offer.
So my recommendation for an R or RP is to mix EF and RF. RF for what you like most and EF for other things. After all I can't complain about the images I captured with EF L lenses I used for 15 years.
