I’m still in the process of gathering information.

I saw Tony Northrup uses PhotoShop for stacking multiple photos, without mentioning some know how.

I think will focus first on getting out of town for moon shooting, fine tune the settings. If that doesn’t give satisfactory results, then see what else can be done.

Since a 300mm 2.8L is on short term plans, will try it also with a 2x II. I have the impression that being a good lens should be still okay with the 2x extender.

And from there, something like the 800mm 5.6 AI-S (optionally with a TC-301), can give very similar optical quality of new Canon or Nikon $15.000 800mm primes, for a fraction of the cost.
