very impressed with 70-180 on my a7riv and a9. Having used 100-400 GM since late 2018 I did suffer the shock of zooming to 180mm and then trying to turn more. It feels like a wide-angle lens for those who are used to reach of 100-400mm.

Had to walk several miles over 4 hours with the 24-70 GM, a9, a7riv and 70-180. My shoulders were definitely sore after due to thin think tank strap but i would not have been able to carry the 100-400 for that length of time.

i checked 100-200% crops of the 70-180 from a7riv and the detail at 200% is impressive.

very happy with this lens. the af speed is also deadly. only turd party lenses i had out of necessity were 24/2.8 and 35mm/2.8 Samyang lenses. Those were decent especially for price as I needed a low profile lens. This ups the ante for sony to lower their price and increase af speed using dual linear motors.

Have you looked into a Cotton Carrier setup for hiking? I have a 3rd party option from Opteka which helps a lot when hiking or walking long distances.
