Protective Coat Not Needed on Canvas Prints

Hi All

My standard practice for ink jet prints on canvas has been to have a protective UV coat applied as the last step in the printing process.

However, I have been told recently by two different print labs that pigmented inks have gotten so good that a protective UV coat is no longer needed and they no longer offer it.  One lab was saying this when using Breathing Color matte canvas and another when using Epson's Signature Matte canvas.

Has anyone else been getting this line from print labs?  Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject; 'skip the UV coat for prints on canvas, it is not needed...'
