f14 is just where the effects of diffraction should start to kick in on aps-c format. Changing from f11 to f14 does not suddenly render an image soft. Correctly processed with the right amount of output sharpening used should render a sharp image. See my post above.

Could be, but I have noticed my 16-50 going soft at these apertures as well... Especially at the extremes of the zoom range.

To be honest, I use mine much less now it in favour of the DA20-40, and I'm eagerly anticipating the new version that was recently announced.
